A proper baseball practice should include ten minutes of warm-up time with 20 minutes of individual and team hitting drills following. The next five minutes should be base running, followed by 10 minutes of team defense strategy and situational drills. Once that is complete additional drills with each position should finish up the practice. Finish with a team meeting and you have completed your workout.
You must learn proper stride. Use your left side for leverage if you swing righty. If you bat left-handed, you will lift your right leg. As the pitch gets closer, stride about a foot closer to increase momentum towards the opposing pitcher. Younger and smaller players should stride somewhat less, maybe 9 inches.
When running base paths, avoid ignoring signs base coaches give you. You should focus on the bases and the base coaches because they can see the entire field. When doing base running, concentrate on them instead of the ball. Let the coaches be your eyes. If the coaches signal you to hold, make sure that you stay put at the closest available base. If they are telling you to go, run full speed ahead.
